Moma, the company that created #TEDAndMoma, is bringing a TED Talk to life this week at 8 p.m.
ET on Saturday, Jan. 21, from the TEDWomen group.
“My son is a professional baseball player and a mother,” the TED talk begins.
“So I wanted to share my experience of parenting with a generation of women in the tech industry who want to take the next step in their careers.”
Moma also shared her experience growing up and her thoughts on growing up in a very competitive and privileged environment.
“I had no access to my own education, so I had to go to a public school,” she said.
“Even when I got my own high school diploma, I had no support.
I was the youngest kid in the school.
And when I left, my mother was unemployed.
It was kind of like I had my own little world to navigate. “
And I was one of the only women in my class, so in the class, I was always the only woman.
It was kind of like I had my own little world to navigate.
I had little to no resources.
So it was kind the most difficult time of my life.”
The TEDWomen blog offers tips on how to get into the world of tech.
It also gives tips on what to wear, what to say and what to do to make sure you’re not a target.
“The TEDTalk is one of those conversations that I can’t just say out loud, but I wanted the TED Women community to get together and have that conversation,” she added.
“What I wanted is to have the TEDTalk as a way for the community to come together and learn more about each other and how to grow together.”
Moman says she’s been surprised at how many women are interested in joining the TEDChallenge, and she hopes that it will inspire them to start sharing their experiences with each other.
She says the TED Talk is a great opportunity to reach out to those who are in the same boat, as well as give them a platform to learn from others.
“It’s really important to me that the community knows that I’m not alone, and that I want to be heard,” she told The Huffington Post.
“This is my chance to share that.”
