Mombasa, the capital of the Central African Republic, is about to open more than 10,000 new classrooms to educate school children in 2017, the government announced on Tuesday.
“The aim is to make the Mombassas education system a model for the rest of the country,” Minister of Education, Science and Technology, Emmanuel Nguayre, said in a statement.
The government has been working to bring the Moutiers system of public education to the capital since 2011, when the government opened the Mopec school in the coastal city.
Nguayres government had hoped to open Mopeco in 2018, but the process stalled due to a lack of funds.
“This year, we are ready to make this historic occasion a success, with the support of our international partners, to launch a new MopEC school in Mombosas capital,” he added.
The Mopekon district in the capital, which covers some 40,000 people, will host the new school.
The capital will host about 1,000 schools by 2020.
