The world’s second most expensive university in the world has announced it will open a second campus in Australia.
The University of Melbourne, a private institution, has said it will invest $10.2 billion over three years to build the new campus at the former university of Sydney.
“This is an extraordinary opportunity for the University of Sydney and we are delighted that the University is now willing to take this leap of faith,” UMel students and staff said in a statement.
“The University is committed to improving its access and quality of education for students across the country.
We are determined to make the University more accessible, better connected and more affordable for all.”
The $10 billion will be used to build a new building on the site of the former US.
Hancock International Airport, which will house a student residence, academic, business and training centres, and the building itself.
The campus will open in 2019.
